Geeta Pokhrel, B.Sc .Batch (2071-75)

I am Geeta Pokhrel, a recently passed out student from the Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus. My four years (2071-2075) experiences at IOF were one of the memorable periods in my life where I gained sharp insight in the field of Forestry as well as understood the real meaning of life, friends and hard labor.

The foremost thing, I being a girl, have learned from this campus is that gender has nothing to do with the professionalism and career. I have developed a strong determination and courage to reach any corner of the world because of the motivation and encouragement of the faculties. Similarly, involvement in the several green organizations like : SWOREC, SHEAC, etc. I gained an opportunity to engage myself in the wide practical aspects of forestry as wildlife, trees, environment, etc. Again the very crucial aspect I can’t forget from this institute is the huge support of Professors and Assistant Professors at the final semester thesis period. On top of that, the natural setting, peaceful environment and pleasant climate of the college is much favorable for the students that enhance the teaching-learning process. Besides, there are regular extra-curricular activities like : sports, drawing competition, quiz context, debate, eloquence, etc. that is a source of entertainment and refreshment for students. I am pleased by the entire university seniors and faculties how they welcome new students as well as a farewell for the final year students. The regular educational excursions, tours, conferences, seminars, etc. indeed helped me a lot to advance my knowledge. All these are the qualities and experiences that made my four-year period in IOF really unforgettable.

However, I have also felt still there are few areas that need to be improved in order to facilitate the teaching-learning process. I am a freedom-lover with no indulgence in the political party in a student’s life. I remember when I was a new student in college, I was a kind of mentally disturbed by the political environment. Likewise, the laboratory equipment, library books, transportation services, etc. are quite out-dated and insufficient for the students. Also, from my experience what I believe is that let there be punctuality in every aspect like : completion of courses, exams, results and so on. I believe these are just minor issues that can be improved if all the faculties, staffs and students work together.
